Best of the Best: Peru

Best of the Best: Peru

Peru is a country that truly has it all: mountains, deserts, beaches, cities, lakes, Inca ruins, etc etc etc. There is so much diversity to explore that it can be a bit overwhelming to conquer it all. So to ease your worries, I have put together a list of all my personal recommendations in each must-visit destination from North to South. I spent two months backpacking Peru and I curated this guide purely based on places I have actually been (all 116 of them!) and would advise to go. I also include all of my favorite restaurants, cafes, markets, and bars in each area. At the end of the guide, I include helpful tips n tricks like how to avoid common scams, locals apps, and which food to try. This guide is all you'll need to have the absolute best trip to Peru.

~Mancora~

Las Pocitas
@tamaraknell
The main beach in Mancora. You can sun tan, rent a surfboard or paddleboard. Lots of people selling sunglasses/tapestries/beach chairs. Pro tip: there is a really nice patch of sand right outside of Papamos cafe where the sellers don't bother you and its free to lay.

Whale Watching Tour
@tamaraknell
If you are in Mancora for whale watching season (July-October), then hop on one of the many offered tours to see these majestic giants. Tours really range in price but they are all very similar so the cheapest option is perfectly fine. They all start very early in the morning as thats when the whales are most active.

La Biodega Café
@tamaraknell
The most expensive cafe in the area but so so so worth it. Came back here twice. The smoothie bowls are so refreshing and the shakshuka is perfect for a chilly day.

A nice indoor cafe with vegetarian options. They have a breakfast deal where you get a coffee and juice included with the price.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Originally from LA, I've solo traveled to 58 countries at 27 years old. Most of my travels have revolved around South East Asia, Central America, Europe, Australia, and South America. I specialize in budget backpacking and slow travel. I focus my recommendations on adventure activities, nature, cultural experiences, local food, and nightlife. I've had tons of crazy experiences along my journey that has shaped me into the confident backpacker I am today. I want every person (but women especially!) to feel the joy and freedom that comes from solo traveling. I'll tell you the good, the bad, and the ugly. I've made tons of mistakes traveling; I've lost my debit card, had medical emergencies, stolen iPhones, and the occasional mental breakdown...or two. Traveling is not always picture perfect so I want to show you all the nitty gritty details to make sure you are THE most prepared for your backpacking adventure.
