Dog-Friendly Guide to Sarajevo, Bosnia

Sarajevo is FULL of restaurants, cafes and bars for you to enjoy. The Bosnian coffee is one of my favorite things. Take some time and enjoy the full experience instead of trying to take it to go. Make a reservation for the fancier places, especially if you want to sit outside with your dog. The attitude towards dogs here is well mixed. Some people are very friendly with your dog and insist on giving treats and water. Others will jump out of the way and across the street when they see you coming. We only saw a total of 4 stray dogs during our stay and they seemed uninterested in our dog. The other local pets were a bit more territorial, so keep a respectful distance.

If you're looking for somewhere a bit quieter to enjoy your coffee in peace, then this is it. Just up the street from the busy town center, but a very manageable walk. Enjoy a calm cup of coffee with your dog, but beware the cats on this street were... a bit territorial.

If we could have eaten here for every meal, I think we would have. The food and and the service were all the best we encountered while in Sarajevo; but the secrets out! Reservations start at 3-4 days out so make sure you make a reservation well in advance! They have tables outside which you can request; but if they are tight on space, then you might need to leave furry bestie at home for this one.

Merak Tours & Adventures Boat Trips | Kayaking | Hikes | Tours

We drove by the beautiful Jablaničko lake on our way to Sarajevo and decided to go back and check it out. I am so glad we found Merak Tours and Adventures! Our guide took such good care of us and our dog. The breakfast he provided was all homemade, organic and delicious. Easily one of the best meals we've had on our trip! The views from the boat were outstanding and the water was the perfect temperature and such a beautiful turquoise blue color.

We took the cable car up here with our dog and walked on the bobsled track. Such an amazing view of the city and a nice shaded walk through the mountains. Our dog needed to be crated while in the cable car, but that was the only requirement.

Museum of Crimes Against Humanity and Genocide

Heartbreaking, first-hand accounts about how genocide impacted real people in Sarajevo. There are a few other museums around Sarajevo as well as walking tours. Highly recommend everyone who comes to Sarajevo to visit at least one to really get the full scope of the place.
