General Information
When to visit Sweden
The best time to visit Sweden largely depends on your preferences and the experiences you seek. During the summer months, the country comes alive with vibrant festivals, extended daylight hours, and a bustling camper culture. It's a popular time for outdoor enthusiasts to explore the country's picturesque landscapes and enjoy activities like hiking, kayaking and camping. However, it's essential to book accommodations in advance, as campsites and popular destinations tend to fill up quickly during this peak season. Keep in mind that camping prices and overall costs may be higher during this time.
For us, September was the perfect time to visit Sweden. The weather remains pleasant, the crowds begin to thin out and and at most campgrounds you can simply drop in without making a reservation in advance. In the northern regions you also have the chance to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights! September also treats travelers to the magical Indian Summer in Lapland, where the forests come alive with a vibrant display of autumn colors, creating a breathtaking landscape.
It's important to note that as the year progresses, many camping sites start to close down, particularly from October onwards. Therefore, it's advisable to plan your travels accordingly and check for campsite availability and amenities in advance. As autumn arrives, particularly in the northern regions of Sweden, the temperatures can become quite chilly. If you don't have a heated camper van, you might want to consider staying in the cabins available at camping sites or to bring a small portable heater.
