Skiathos - discovering the island by bus

There is a daily bus service that operates a route along the main road from Skiathos Town to Koukounaries every 10-15 minutes through the day during peak season.

🚏 To get to Tzaneria Beach you have to stop at Bus stop 12 and have a 5 minutes walk.

Skiathos Town is the capital of the island. It has lots of bars and restaurants and the city is full of life at night.

I would recommend staying in Skiathos Town as it offers lots of possibilities of eating and drinking after a day at the beach.

A few things you could visit in the town are the following:

One unique thing to do in Skiathos is going to watch planes landing. Skiathos has one of the shortest runways, so when the planes are landing they are passing right above you. There is a place at the end of the runway, outside of the airport, where you can wait for the planes to land and try to catch the perfect shot 📸.

If you choose an accommodation outside of the town, you can get the bus to 🚏 Bus Stop 4 or Bus Stop 0 (closer to the port).

For the white bus you can purchase a ticket in one of the three kiosks: Port (Bus stop 0) / Akropoli (Bus stop 4) / Koukounaries (Bus stop 26). At rush hours there are people selling tickets in bus stations for the white bus. 

The stops are marked with blue signposts with the number printed on, and some have shelters to wait in. The journey from Skiathos Town to Koukounaries takes around 30 minutes, and the bus turns round and heads back pretty much straight away.

🚏 To get to Kolios Beach you have to stop at Bus Stop 13 and have a 10 minutes walk.

‌🚏 To get to Vromolimnos Beach you have to stop at Bus Stop 13 and have a 10 minutes walk.

You can get to Lalaria Beach only by boat, but the beauty of the place deserves the trip.

🚏 To get to Koukounaries Beach you have to stop at Bus stop 26 and have a 5 minutes walk.

You can get the bus from the airport. The bus station is on the corner, right next to the control tower, between terminal 1 and 2. The price of the bus ticket is 3 euros.

You can choose to fly directly to the island. The airport's full name is Skiathos International Airport Alexandros Papadiamantis, IATA code JSI. It is close to the city, Skiathos Town, and you can easily find transportation from and to it.

Another option is by ferry, which is the preferred option if you choose to reach the island by car. You can check ferries from Volos, as this is the closest city on the continent and it is a shorter trip.

🚏 To get to Agia Paraskevi beach you have to stop at Bus stop 16 and have a 5 minutes walk.

🚏 To get to Agia Eleni Beach you have to stop at Bus stop 25 and have a 15 minutes walk.

The bus tickets can also be purchased in the bus, for any of the bus lines. 

I recommend getting to Lalaria with Kalipso Boat, which can be taken from the port. The ticket costs 20 euros per person and it is a 3 hours trip, from 17:30 to 20:30. It takes approximately 30 minutes to get there, you have 1 hour and half at the beach and then the boat leaves on its way back. We had luck of nice weather and on the way back the boat captain took a little detour and showed us the Kastro Beach, got a glimpse of some beautiful sea caves and also got to see the sunset from the boat.

You can also get a taxi if you prefer to get directly to your accommodation. To get to Kolios, it costs 25 euros.

🚏 To get to Kanapitsa Beach you have to stop at Bus stop 12 and have a 10-15 minutes walk up the hill.

❗️Tip: Check the arrivals on flightradar to see the exact time the planes are landing as delays might appear. Also, check the direction of landing as it might change due to winds.
