What Minnesota is really known for are the lakes! There are many around the Twin Cities, but some of the best are up north. Three hours from Minneapolis is Duluth - a city nestled along Lake Superior with lots of hills. A classic lake area is Brainerd (2.5 hours) or Bemidji (4 hours). If you have the chance, I would look for a resort hotel or Airbnb in these areas to get out of the city and enjoy the lake.

St. Louis Park/Uptown
This is a much younger area of the Twin Cities. After college, many graduates move to apartments in the area. The area has two main lakes - Bde Maka Ska and Lake Harriet - that offer great walking trails, many restaurants, and some public beaches. There aren't as many hotel options in the direct lake area, but it is accessible by cars from nearby locations. There are parking lots and street parking scattered around the area.
