Fiji is Amazing for Families!

Bula Vinakaaaa!

Unlike many other international destinations where the kids club is housed in an air-conditioned room at the back of the resort, Fiji's kids' clubs are all about getting out and about all around the resort.

Instead of very structured activites, including watching movies and playing video games, you'll find all sorts of fun activities like coconut husking, crab racing, snorkelling, sandcastle building, and traditional Fijian crafts (like basket weaving and dancing). Your kids won't be stuck at the back of the resort - they'll be having the time of their life!

Babysitting is super affordable, and your kids (especially little ones) will have an amazing time (spent outdoors) and come home with all sorts of stories about their Fiji adventure.

The Best Time to Visit

The dry season is considered to be May to October with peak season usually around June to September, especially during Australian and New Zealand school holidays.

I've travelled to Fiji in April and didn't see any rain. It was fabulous weather but super busy with the timing of Easter and ANZAC day holidays falling close together over April school holidays.

Depending on the ages of your kids, if you travel to Fiji during these busy periods they will have loads of new friends to play with. Travel outside the school holidays if you want a quieter experience and cheaper deals.

Denarau Island (Mainland)

Just 20 minutes from Nadi International Airport,  This area has a more commercial, developed vibe (it was developed in the 1980s as a reclaimed mangrove area). Denarau is where you stay for convenience, luxury, and variety.

Here you'll find the luxury hotel brands, modern, resort-style resorts with lots of family-friendly large pools, kids’ clubs, and plenty of activities like golf, tennis, and spa treatments.

On the island you'll have access to a golf course and waterpark. There are several options for dining and shopping at other resorts and at the marina. Plus you'll have easy access to the Mamanuca Islands for day trips.

While all the resorts are on the beachfront, the waters are calm but don't compare to the powdery sands and turquoise waters of the islands or Coral Coast. The sand is also darker. If the beach is the most important factor for you then Denarau might not be your best choice.

If you only have a few days in Fiji this is a good choice. If you have longer consider a few nights here before heading out to one of the islands.

Coral Coast (Mainland)

A bit more of a drive from Nadi airport (approx 1-2 hours) is the Coral Coast. This area is where the first Fiji resorts were built for tourism, so they have some of the best locations on the Fiji mainland.

Here you'll find some of Fiji’s best mainland beaches with soft white sand and lagoons. The coral reefs are close to shore so the snorkeling is good.

If you stay in this area you feel like you're in Fiji, more so than if you stay in Denarau.

The Mamanuca Islands

The Mamanuca Islands are the postcard beaches and a true Fijian island escape. This is where you go for the "get away from it all" vibe.

The calm shallow waters are perfect for kids and you'll find many choices for resorts with great kids’ clubs, babysitting services, and family-friendly activities.

Some of the islands, like Castaway, have only one resort so you can experience a smaller island with a village-like atmosphere.

Other islands, like Malolo Lailai Island have several resorts so you have more options for dining and exploring.

Another consideration is to choose a resort with more than one beach options so that if you have windy weather you have an alternative.

To get to the Mamanuca  islands you can take a boat from Nadi or helicopter straight from Nadi airport.
