Maui on a budget

This Hostel has really low prices, free pancakes and coffee every morning, and they offer guests free tours and activities (listed below) every day but Sundays. So it´s the perfect place to stay if you want to really save lots of money!

+ Road to Hana                          8:00am - 7:00am

Hana is a MUST and also one of the highest priced tours, so if you're not renting a car, you definitely want to take this free tour with the hostel. 

It´s a whole day tour, so bring your swimsuit, water, towel, sunscreen and cash, some of the stands doesn't take cards.

Beach day.                               9:00am - 3:00am

Guides check the forecast every morning to take you to the best beach, they'll take you to grab some snacks and then to the beach. If you don't want to spend on more snacks at the grocery store, you can also bring your food from the hostel, but one of the experiences I enjoy the most is going to the grocery stores and try new things. Also you can borrow boogie boards from the hostel.

Iao Valley.                                 9:00am - 1:00pm

You ´ll have to pay $6 for the park entrance so you'll need cash.

Snorkeling trips                      9:00am - 2:00pm

Margarita & Karaoke night   7:00pm - 9:00pm.         FREE margaritas!!

Swim underwater, close to giant turtles and schools of thousand colorful fish and at night run down to the lobby for free margaritas and some fun singing at the karaoke.

Hawaii love day.                     7:45am - 3:00pm

Drum circle.                            3:30pm - 7:30pm

A tour with a purpose! Partnering with local nonprofits, engage in activities like ecological restoration, beach cleanups, and volunteering at cultural sites. After giving some love, go see giant turtles laying on the beach and join the dancing circle along with the drums and let you feel the music and give yourself to the rhythm.

Hiking trips.                            9:00am - 2:00pm

Push your body to its limit as you hike higher up mountain ridges or deeper into bamboo forests.

Surf Lessons.                         10:00am - 1:00pm          $100 per person

*BBQ night.                             6:00pm - 8:00pm.          $10 per person

*On Sundays every place on the area closes early, so it's hard to find somewhere to have dinner. BBQ night it's a great and affordable option for 2 burgers, 2 drinks, chips, and a good time at the backyard meeting more travelers.

This place is a true gem for sunsets. If you are here, make sure you stay in the Black Rock beach, the Marriot Hotel, do a ceremony everyday with a man running and lightning torches til the top of the rock and then he dive from the cliff to the ocean, you can listen to the Hawaiian music all over the beach and if you stay close, you can watch the Luau dancers from the beach without paying +$200 USD.

There's plenty of places on the island that you'll want to see and it's definitely easier doing it by car, you can also wait to meet people at the hostel and ask if they want to split car and gas expenses, I'm sure there will be many people wanting to do so.

This list can help you to choose the days for traveling, or the days you want to stay at the hostel, they hang a list upstairs on the wall for guests to sign in 2 nights before, so take that in mind when you book.

You can hike the Pipiway trial, camping at Kipahulu District, the pools of Ohe'o aka 7 sacred pools (formed by the majestic Makahiku Falls), the Kipahulu visitors center for some history and walking the Kuloa Point trail leads you to some amazing views.

Almost like the road to Hana but on the west side, with a lot of beautiful stops and lookouts. I personally think that the views and some spots are way prettier than Hana.

Doing the loop requires hopping up and down the car. 

It's almost like a 2 hour drive up to the Volcano.

You have to make a reservation for sunrise, sunset doesn't require reservation. I personally believe that sunsets are way better. You will need blankets and warm clothes, if you plan to stay until night for stargazing, be prepared and bring some snacks, coffee or drinks and a lot of blankets, it can be really cold, but the sky looks insane!!!!

The bus can take you to Kaanapali, Whaler's Village, walk through it to get to the beach and enjoy! Bus ticket is $2 US one way or $4 the day pass.

By far, the best place on the road to Hana, the food is super tasty, me and my friend asked for the BBQ pork ribs and the BBQ chicken and split half and half, the chicken was so good, but I have to say Pork ribs were like heaven, the meat was so tender almost like melting in my mouth, the Mac salad was the tastiest I've ever try.

Each dish was about $18-$20 USD + $5 drinks.

The must is the banana bread, they also sell some sandwiches and beverages.

Watching the sunset inside the ocean is magical, you can watch closer to the man lighting the torches, appreciate the dive and have this amazing feeling by being in the water at that momen, just you, the ocean and the sun.
