Peloponnese Travel Guide

Peloponnese Travel Guide

Sara Lemeire
Greece, my favorite European country! The Peloponnese is by far my favorite part of Greece. It is less crowded and a lot cheaper than the famous islands. You can still find many authentic villages and incredible beaches. Visit the most relevant national archeological sites and breathtaking monasteries. It is a great region to go hiking and exploring the many waterfalls. We always rent a car and go on a road trip through the vineyards, olive and orange trees. Here’s my Peloponnese Travel Guide including what you can’t miss when you go there and where to eat and stay.

Athens

The capital of Greece is the place to be to learn about the ancient Greek civilization. Visit the Acropolis, the hill on which the worldfamous Parthenon stands. Learn all about it at the new Acropolis Museum and National Archaeological Museum. Make sure to buy a multi-site ticket for entry to the major archaeological sites, including the Ancient Agora and Keramikos Cemetery.

Agora of Athens
@saralemeire2
The ancient Agora of Athens (also called the Classical Agora) is the best-known example of an ancient Greek agora, located to the northwest of the Acropolis and bounded on the south by the hill of the Areopagus and on the west by the hill known as the Agoraios Kolonos, also called Market Hill. The Agora's initial use was for a commercial, assembly, or residential gathering place.

Roman Agora
@saralemeire2
The functions of the old agora were transferred to the Roman Agora, which was built around 100 metres east of the original agora. The Roman Agora has not today been fully excavated, but is known to have been a peristyle open space.

The capital is lovely to stroll through, especially along the most beautiful street Dionysiou Areopagitou. Pick up a city guide to make sure you don’t miss any of the historical sites in the streets and learn more about them. Adrianou Street is the main shopping street of Plaka old town. This part of the city is known for its pastel-colored lanes and typical white houses.
