1. Gebla tal-Halfa, Zriezaq Bay

To reach Żrieżaq Bay, start by heading towards the village of Qala. Once you arrive in Qala, follow the signs leading to Hondoq ir-Rummien. As you approach Hondoq, just before descending to the beach, take a left turn onto a narrow, unpaved road marked with a small sign pointing towards Żrieżaq Bay. Continue along this winding road for about 1 kilometer, where you'll find a small clearing to park your car.

From here, it’s a short walk down a rocky path that leads you directly to the bay. Keep an eye out for the striking Gebla tal-Ħalfa, a distinctive rock formation just offshore, which adds to the raw beauty of this secluded spot.

Whether you're looking to swim in the clear waters or simply relax with a view, Żrieżaq Bay offers an intimate and serene setting away from the hustle and bustle.

Rock formation adding to the natural landscape beauty in Zriezaq bay, located within a close proximity to Hondoq ir-Rummien bay in Qala. Enjoy a short hike down a rocky path after parking your car in a small clearing. Recommended for a secluded beach suggestion with clear waters and a peaceful ambience, far different than the more popular beaches around Gozo. However, make sure to pack everything you need such as snacks and drinks as no facilities are available in the area.

2. Għajn Barrani

Just a stone's throw away from the famous Ramla l-Ħamra, Għajn Barrani is a hidden coastal gem that offers a more secluded experience amidst Gozo’s stunning landscape. It is so secluded that only a few locals actually know how to reach it. This rocky bay, known for its pristine waters and dramatic cliffs, is perfect for those looking to escape the busier beaches and enjoy a peaceful day by the sea.

To reach Għajn Barrani, start by heading towards Triq Marsalforn (street) in the town of Xagħra. Once you have arrived in this street follow the signs leading you to Pergola Farmhouses (marked in this map for reference of direction). Since it might be a bit confusing to get her, don't worry if you get confused. Try asking some of the locals that might be around. There is a high chance that if they are in the area, they would know the way.  You can park your car in a small clearing a few meters away from the narrow unpaved road that takes you down to Pergola Valley. Be careful while trekking down this road, sometimes it might be very rugged and steep but it will reward you with its breathtaking landscapes. We promise that the tranquil and peaceful ambience awaiting you at the shore will be very much worth it.

3. Hidden swimming spot beneath the tower at Horizon Bay, Marsalforn

In the bustling seaside town of Marsalforn, there’s a lesser-known swimming spot that offers a quiet escape from the more crowded areas. Nestled just beneath the tower at Horizon Bay, this secret spot is perfect for a refreshing dip in the clear waters of Gozo.

To find this hidden gem, start by heading towards Marsalforn and make your way to the tower that overlooks Horizon Bay. We have marked Horizon Restaurant in the map for ease of direction. Once you arrive at this restaurant you can easily locate the tower with your eyes if you face the beach and look on your left.

Once you reach the tower, walk around to the back, where you’ll see a set of stairs carved into the rocky floor on your right. Carefully descend these stairs, which will lead you to a passageway—a door-like hole in the rocks. Pass through this natural doorway, and you’ll find a ladder that brings you closer to the water.

At the bottom, you can either settle on the flat rocks directly in front of you, which offer a perfect spot to sunbathe or take a plunge into the sea, or you can venture further to your left. Here, you’ll find additional rocky outcrops and small pools where you can enjoy a more private swim.

This spot is ideal for those looking to experience Marsalforn’s beautiful waters away from the crowds, providing a peaceful and picturesque setting right at the water’s edge.

4. Ġorġun beach, Għajnsielem

Tucked away in the coastal area of Għajnsielem, Ġorġun Beach is a secluded and tranquil spot perfect for those who want to experience Gozo’s coastline in peace. This small, rocky beach offers crystal-clear waters and a serene atmosphere, making it an ideal retreat for a quiet swim or some time by the sea.

To reach Ġorġun Beach, head towards the village of Għajnsielem and follow the road signs leading to Mġarr Harbour. Just before you reach the harbor, take a left turn towards the narrow road that leads to the Għajnsielem cemetery. Continue past the cemetery until you reach a small clearing where you can park your car. From here, a short walk will take you to the edge of the rocky cliffs. Look for a discreet path leading down to the beach—this trail is steep and can be a bit challenging, so be sure to wear sturdy shoes. As you make your way down, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the coast and the open sea.

Alternatively, you could go to Mġarr Harbour and arrive at the Gozo Channel Ferry Gate, as if you were about to purchase tickets to board the ferry, but instead of going into the building continue driving past the parking space (there is only one lane and one direction for driving so just follow the other cars). Once you have passed underneath the tunnel just next to the parking space, go left up a small ramp. You will likely see a lot of cars parked here and the Gozo Channel Offices. You can park you car here and start a short walk along the edge of the cliffs until you reach a small flight of rocky stairs which will take you to the beach.

Once you reach Ġorġun Beach, you’ll find a small, rocky shoreline with beautifully clear water, perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The beach is sheltered by the surrounding cliffs, providing a peaceful and secluded environment where you can relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Gozo’s coastline.

5. Ras il-Ħobż, Xewkija

Ras il-Ħobż, also known as the "Head of the Loaf" due to its distinctive shape, is a hidden coastal gem on the southern coast of Gozo. This secluded spot is ideal for those looking to immerse themselves in the island’s natural beauty, offering clear waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling, all within a peaceful and undisturbed setting.

To reach Ras il-Ħobż, begin by heading towards the village of Xewkija and follow the road signs leading to Mġarr ix-Xini, one of Gozo’s well-known bays. Before reaching Mġarr ix-Xini, look out for a narrow road branching off to the right, signposted towards Ras il-Ħobż. This road is unpaved and can be a bit rough, so drive carefully until you reach a small parking area near the cliff’s edge.

From the parking area, you'll need to continue on foot. A short walk along a rocky path will take you down towards the coast. The path can be steep in places, so it’s best to wear sturdy shoes. As you descend, you’ll be greeted by breathtaking views of the rugged coastline and the deep blue sea.

At the bottom, you'll arrive at a small, rocky shore where you can relax or take a dip in the crystal-clear waters. Ras il-Ħobż is a tranquil spot, perfect for those seeking solitude and the opportunity to connect with Gozo’s stunning natural environment. The clear waters make it an excellent location for snorkeling, allowing you to explore the vibrant marine life that thrives in the area.
