Two Weeks in Malaysia

You should plan to spend 4 days into this region: 2 days in Mulu and 2 days in Kuching. Here is the perfect itinerary.

- Tour the river on the typical Malaysian boat

Kuching, the capital of the Malaysian state of Sarawak on the island of Borneo, is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city, featuring architecture ranging from colonial buildings to modern skyscrapers. 

The Waterfront hotel is right in the city center and has a beautiful view on the Kuching River. 

- Bako National Park: prepare yourself with hiking shoes and water for a beautiful hike in the Malaysian wildlife. If you are lucky, you will find proboscis monkeys and crocodiles.

You can get to this National Park through taxi or Uber. When booked, tell them to wait for you to visit the park. They will set a price and tell you what time to be back, which is usually no later than 4.00 pm since the park closes at 3.00 pm. The park requires an entrance fee, as well as a boat fee, since it is reachable only by boat. You can pay only in cash.

- Sarawak Museum: to learn a little more about the history of Malaysian people. 

- Kuching Street Food Festival (available during the month of August)

- Commons: Brunch and dinner, typical Malaysian with a touch of Northern  Europe

- James Brooke Bistro and Cafe: Malaysian Dinner

Fly from Kuching to Kota Bharu. Take a 45 minutes taxi to Kuala Besut and then hop on a water taxi for 30 minutes to Lesser Perenthian Island. The Perenthian Islands are the perfect place if you want to take off your shoes, relax while reading a book on the beach, have massages,  snorkel, dive in the beautiful water, eat freshly fished fish cooked right in front of you and explore the islands. 

Note: You can move around the island by water taxis, which are cheap but payable only in cash.

You can spend as much time as you want on this island, but we recommend at least three days. 

To get to Kuala Lumpur from the airport it takes about an hour with Uber or Taxi.

Kuala Lumpur is the capital city of Malaysia and has much to offer. The first thing to visit is Chinatown, and explore the many things that this area has to offer. Walk back to the city center and enter one of the many malls. The prettier one is the one underneath the Petronas Towers. Here you can also have lunch/dinner.

Book a taxi to take you to Melaka, one of the UNESCO cities that has been built under the influence of Dutch conquerors. It is 1 hour away from Kuala Lumpur

Book a taxi to take you to Cameron Highlands, which are the tea crops in Malaysia. You can spend the day here, it is 3 hours away from Kuala Lumpur 

Take an Uber to Batu Caves. This temple is very old but can only be entered if you are covered from your knees down and your shoulders as well. Head back to the city center and visit Petaling Street

Mulu’s four show caves were selected for their uniqueness or sheer beauty. They can all visit as day trips from the park HQ and are accessible by plankwalks and well-lit concrete paths
