From England to Spain

Embarking on a road trip is always an exhilarating experience, especially when it involves traversing across multiple countries and immersing oneself in diverse landscapes and cultures. Join us on an unforgettable journey as we recount our adventure driving from England to Spain, accompanied by our trusty T5 van. From the charming coastlines of France to the majestic Pyrenees and finally reaching the vibrant city of Tortosa, our road trip was filled with scenic drives, camping under the stars, and creating lasting memories.

Setting Off from Plymouth and Ferry Ride to Roscoff:

Our adventure began in the city of Plymouth, England. Loaded with camping gear and a spirit of wanderlust, we boarded the overnight ferry to Roscoff, France. As the ferry sailed through the night, we anticipated the beginning of our continental journey. The ferry offers cabins for extra comfort but we decided to stick to the seats included with our ticket!

Arriving in Roscoff, we hit the road and headed south along the western coast of France. Our first stop was the idyllic seaside town of Longeville Sur Mer. Nestled between beautiful beaches and lush greenery, this charming destination provided the perfect setting for our initial camping experience. We enjoyed long walks along sandy shores, indulged in mouthwatering local cuisine, and savored breathtaking sunsets over the Atlantic Ocean.

Continuing our journey southward, we ventured into the heart of southwestern France to the enchanting city of Pau. Renowned for its rich history and stunning architecture, Pau captivated us from the moment we arrived. With its elegant boulevards, vibrant markets, and the picturesque Château de Pau overlooking the city, we couldn’t resist exploring its many treasures. Camping amidst the tranquil countryside surrounding Pau allowed us to truly appreciate the region’s natural beauty.

Leaving Pau behind, we eagerly drove towards the awe-inspiring Pyrenees. The mountain range unfolded before us, revealing its snow-capped peaks, verdant valleys, and winding roads. The T5 handled the ascent effortlessly, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the breathtaking vistas. We made several stops along the way, capturing the essence of the Pyrenees through hikes, picnics, and encounters with local wildlife. Camping overnight in the mountains offered a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

As we crossed the border into Spain, the vibrant atmosphere and warm Mediterranean breeze welcomed us. Our final destination was Tortosa, a captivating city steeped in history and cultural heritage. Nestled on the banks of the River Ebro, Tortosa charmed us with its ancient architecture, bustling markets, and delicious gastronomy. We spent our days exploring the winding streets of the old town, visiting historic landmarks, and indulging in tapas.

Our journey from England to Spain in our beloved T5 van was an incredible adventure filled with unforgettable moments. The trip took 5 nights until we arrived in Spain, let me break down the costs.

This price can vary a lot depending if it is in term time, an evening flight, booked in advance, etc… we made the mistake to ignore all of these which made our tickets quite expensive.

This Is a cost that can be quite high if travelling by oneself, but sharing the costs can save a lot of money.

This was a HUGE save when travelling across as a hotel would have cost us around £70 per night. Wether you are going across in a van with space to sleep in the back or driving in a car with a tent in the back, there’s loads and loads of places throughout France that will let you park up for free or no more than £10 a night.

Because we had the van with a mini fridge and a barbecue to make food on we decided to buy our food at supermarkets instead of wasting money at tourist trap restaurants and ended up saving huge amounts!
