Accommodation

Shepherds Retreat
@suitcase_squirrell
Tucked away in the village of Wool, this home from home makes a great base for those wishing to tour, with the ever-popular Jurassic Coastline under 5 miles away. Some of Dorset’s best loved attractions are within 10 miles, including Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Corfe Castle, the riverside town of Wareham, the Tank Museum and Monkey World. Walkers and outdoor enthusiasts can explore a section of the South West Coast Path, head to Swanage and visit Durlston Country Park or simply relax on the sandy beach. Nature reserves at Arne and Studland are filled with flora and fauna or visit one of the museums in the county town of Dorchester where you can learn about this area’s rich history. This property is set within a small development and is accessed via the main entrance at the front. Once inside you are met with a welcoming entrance hall with a useful separate WC and a door to the kitchen/diner on the left. This stylish open plan space has room to enjoy leisurely meals together and a utility room leading off it. On the other side of the hallway is the dual aspect lounge, which has furniture positioned so you can enjoy the wood burner or your favourite shows on the Smart TV. Heading upstairs you will find the three bedrooms, one of which is a king-size with an en-suite. The remaining two bedrooms are comfortable doubles and completing the accommodation is the contemporary bathroom. Double doors open from the lounge into the fully enclosed garden. With numerous places to sit and pretty planting, this is the ideal spot in which to unwind.

Things to do

I have listed things to do in "days" but obviously you do not need to do this in the numerical order. It is just a way of breaking up what to do on each day based on the location of things so that you are not driving all over the place.

Sights

Day 1

Durdle Door is only about a 15-minute drive from your accommodation (traffic dependant).

Durdle Door
@suitcase_squirrell
Durdle Door is one of Dorset’s most photographed and iconic landmarks. It is part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and is an extremely popular beauty spot. It is located on the Lulworth Estate in south Dorset and is part of the Jurassic Coast. The coastline is of such international geological importance that it was designated England’s first natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2001 and is now part of a family of natural wonders including America’s Grand Canyon and Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. The magnificent natural limestone arch was formed when the power of the waves eroded the rock and forged a hole through the middle. The name Durdle is derived from an old English word ‘thirl’, which means to pierce, bore or drill. Durdle Door is accessible from a car park above, which leads you down some slightly steep steps to the beach. It's worth checking for updates as the current status of the path is that it has had some large boulders fall from the cliffs above, ending up directly on the path. Access at the time of writing is currently still possible, however visitors are advised to exercise extreme caution when visiting, as some damage to the steps has occurred. There is a 15 minute walk along a steep downhill path, plus a further 143 steps down onto the beach (trainers or walking boots are needed for this walk, flipflops are not recommended).
