Experience Milan like a local

Experience Milan like a local

You would like to travel/move to Milan but you are feeling a little lost? Don't worry, I have been there too! Big cities can be overwhelming and as a newby you might need to be careful to not fall into tourist traps, or miss out on a wonderful experience right around the corner. I moved to Milan 4 years ago, and after a lot of exploring (and a lot of walking!) I have discovered many nice places, beautiful corners and I know my way around like a local. I like to share my experience and knowledge, so I put together a guide with all my favourite spots in Milan. I listed and mapped out my favourite touristic attractions, museums, aperitivo places, breakfast places, cafes, Italian restaurants, foreign restaurants and gelaterie. Specifically, you will find the following in this guide; 🏛 11 touristic attractions 🎨 6 museums 🥂 6 aperitivo places 🥐 5 breakfast places ☕️ 4 cafes 🍝 8 Italian restaurants 🍙 5 non-Italian restaurants 🍦 5 gelaterie In this way, I hope to help you make you trip to Milan easier, and save lots of time on research! Milan is a truly special and unique city, so I hope that thanks to this guide, you will be able to enjoy it to the fullest!

A local's favourite places in Milan

Touristic attractions

However, don't let the crowds scare you away! Milan has a rich history, wonderful architecture and landmarks, and culture that is very much worth a look!

Duomo di Milano
@amberhansoul
The Duomo is Milan's most important landmark, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, dating from 1386. A visit to the top is definitely worth it! It is a truly special experience to be walking on a marble rooftop, with remarkable views over the city.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II
@amberhansoul
Next to the Duomo, is another one of Milan's architectural wonders! The galleria was built in 1877 as a luxury shopping center and hallway between the Piazza Duomo and Piazza della Scala. Today, it accommodates luxury boutiques from brands like Gucci and a few high-end restaurants.

Brera District
@amberhansoul
Brera is the oldest part of the city, which will make you feel like you stepped into an Italian movie. It is known for its many art shops and galleries. (Tip: according to me, the most beautiful street in Milan is Via Madonnina. Definitely take a stroll here!)

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Hi there! Thank you so much for visiting my shop! Let me tell you a little bit about myself :) I am Amber, I was born and raised in Belgium. The central location of Belgium allowed me to explore Europe from a young age! Especially Italy has always had a special place in my heart. From the year I was born, I traveled to Tuscany twice a year, and I never got bored of its beauty! In fact, I fell in love with the country more every time, which brought me to the decision to move to Milan four years ago. It was immediately clear that I would feel at home there. While the city offers a vibrant environment with an endless array of cute cafes, beautiful architecture and culture, its surroundings are filled with natural wonders! You can easily get to the lakes (Maggiore, Como and Garda), the seaside and the mountains. Now, four years later, I have explored about every area of the city, and have used countless weekends to explore Italy’s wonders. I have been sharing my travel-enthusiasm, and insider-tips on my Instagram page (@amberhansoul), but I often receive the request for a detailed guide. So, I put together a precise guide with all my favourite places which I have visited repeatedly over the past years. I included both touristic attractions (which are famous for a good reason, and shouldn't be missed out on), as well as places that only the locals know about. I hope this guide can make your trip to Milan, or your (future) life in Milan a bit easier!
