Rio de Janeiro, the vibrant heart of Brazil, is a city that pulses with life, especially on Saturdays. Whether you're a local or a traveler, there’s no shortage of hotspots to explore. Here’s a guide to some must-visit places that will immerse you in the spirit of this beautiful city.

1. Praça XV

A thrifters playground

Praça XV
@jasminebalind
🛍️✨ This place is every thrifter’s dream playground! As soon as I stepped into the bustling Praça XV de Novembro market, I felt like I was on a treasure hunt. The vibe is unmatched—vendors chatting, the smell of fresh street food, and rows of stalls filled with *unique vintage gems*. One of my favorite finds? A classic Flamengo football shirt 🖤❤️. It felt so much more special than buying one from a store, especially knowing I’d wear it to a match at Maracanã! 🎉 There’s something about owning a shirt with history—maybe it’s the faded fabric or the thought of the games it’s been to before. And oh, the food! 🥤🍊 I grabbed a freshly squeezed orange juice to sip while wandering through the stalls, and later, couldn’t resist a savory tapioca filled with gooey cheese. If you’re into crispy, golden pastels, join the queue! My go-to is the *mince carne* one—juicy and full of flavor. Pair it with a refillable *cana de açúcar* drink (seriously, you just set your cup down, and they keep refilling—no limits! 😍). For all the vintage lovers, the market has it all: old-school film cameras, retro Polaroids, even vintage video cams 🎥📸. Every corner feels like a slice of history waiting to be taken home. 🚇 Getting there is super easy by Metro, and here’s the golden rule: **bring cash, just in case!** 💵 While many vendors accept cards, having cash on hand makes the whole experience smoother, especially if you’re bargaining or visiting smaller stalls. Don’t hesitate to chat with the sellers—they’re usually up for a little negotiation, especially if you’re buying a few items. I left with a bag full of stories: a football shirt with character, a belly full of delicious street food, and memories I couldn’t wait to share. 🌟

2.Baile Charme, Viaduto de Madureira

Dutão - Baile Charme do Viaduto de Madureira
@jasminebalind
🎶✨ Every Saturday! Located in Madureira, Baile Charme is a vibrant celebration deeply rooted in Rio’s Black community. Known as one of the city’s blackest neighborhoods, Madureira radiates culture, pride, and resilience, making it the perfect home for this iconic dance event. Baile Charme is more than just a party—it’s a community vibe where people come together to celebrate Afro-Brazilian culture through music and dance. With choreographed moves that everyone follows, you can jump right in or, if you’re new to the steps, join a class before the party starts. As you groove under the stars to classic R&B beats, don’t forget to grab a refreshing caipirinha 🍹—cheaper at nearby stands—or savor some delicious street food like juicy burgers 🍔. The energy is unmatched, the music soulful, and the sense of connection truly special. Madureira’s Baile Charme is a testament to the strength and beauty of Rio’s Black culture, where music and unity bring everyone together. 💃🕺✨

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Jasmine Lili
Oi, lindasss! 🇧🇷🌞 My name is Jasmine! I am just a London Girly, currently based in Favela do vidigal, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil! I came to Rio for a year-long exchange at PUC University, but what started as a temporary stay turned into over a year of unforgettable experiences. I lived in Vidigal, a favela with some of the most incredible views in the city, where I truly got to connect with local life and culture. Living there shaped how I see Rio—it’s vibrant, full of soul, and completely unique. I’m all about authentic travel. I train samba weekly, love dancing funk, and believe the best experiences happen when you embrace the local rhythm. As a foodie and coffee and matcha lover, you’ll often find me exploring Rio’s cozy cafes, indulging in hidden gem restaurants, or hunting for the perfect pastry. My itineraries are for travelers who want to go beyond the guidebooks, uncovering secret beaches, breathtaking islands, and the magic of samba nights. Let me show you the Rio I fell in love with! 🌴☕💃✨ 🌴💃✨
