Day 1 - Fly to SJO

Juan Santamaría International Airport
@Himanshi
The airport is relatively small but usually flights land around the same time which is why it could take 30 minutes to get through Immigration. Also there is a SIM card store after Baggage claim. It does close at 10 PM though. Also expect a lot of solicitors at the exit of the airport selling tours, respectfully say no and keep walking.

SJO is where majority of the flights fly into Costa Rica. Most of the flights from the US or Europe usually land late afternoon or evening. It is a good idea to book a hotel in the city of San Jose so you can check out the capital and also pick up a rental car from the city.

We really enjoyed this hotel! The rooms had a small kitchen and living room giving it a little separation. The main selling point was the large buffet for breakfast! It really set the tone of our trip! The staff was really helpful and help us navigate San Jose without connectivity.

We stayed at San Jose Hotel Suites Cristina and they helped us order food at 1 am and call cabs to the city the next morning.

If you fly in early, do checkout the markets -Mercado Borbon and Mercado Central for the seasonal fruits and traditional empanadas.

San José Central Market
@Himanshi
If you have seen Zac Effron's show Down to Earth, this is as close as it gets. Try out a whole bunch of food, fruit and snacks here. Most places already have prices marked clearly but if you feel like you are being overcharged, feel free to say no. There will always be more opportunities to try them.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Hey! I am a young traveller trying to see as much of the world as I can. I love travel and I want to make the most of each place while balancing limited time off and budget as someone early in their career. I would describe my travel style as a mix between going out and exploring on my own terms and leveraging tours and guides for activities that would require expert advice/guidance. My goal while creating itineraries here, is to make the most of each trip possible. I share the things I kept in mind while planning and packing for the trip as well as things I wish I knew before I got there. My guides are filled with places and activities that I would 11/10 recommend and the logistics to do them. If you are debating whether to buy any of my itineraries, think of them as a starter template for you trip with a lot of options for you to add and subtract based on your preferences. I hope you have the best trip :)
