Experience and Visit Bologna like a Local
Streets in Bologna are like a time machine, you will feel to be walking in a Renaissance or Middle Ages scenario. Along its perimeter, you can still see all the ancient gates (my favourite one is Porta Saragozza) and part of the walls that use to protect the town.
Based on the length of your stay, after having visited the most famous attractions, I highly recommend essentially getting lost in its mazy streets and narrow alleys, especially around Via Castiglione, Via Santo Stefano and Strada Maggiore.
Let your curiosity to guide you along the Porticoes (UNESCO world heritage) and remember to look up to the ceiling because many of them have beautiful and very old frescoes. During the journey, be aware of the countless people, especially students, that have passed by these streets, of their stories and lives, of which the timeless buildings around have witnessed across the centuries. Inside those very buildings, the real treasures of the town are guarded, especially the beautiful courtyards where aristocratic families used to banquet, that's why, while walking, look inside through the building gates and, if nobody stops you, sneak in 🙂 and enjoy the view!
