The Maritimes is a region of Eastern Canada that's often forgotten, but it's a huge mistake! It's in my opinion the most peaceful part of Canada, with countless quaint fishing villages living to the rhythm of the ocean, thousands of kilometers of coastline with some of the most unique sights, and of course rich in seafood.
This guide covers 3 different provinces with my insights after spending over a month in the Maritimes guided by locals. This carefully curated list features 60+ places including hikes, sights, activities, restaurants and accommodations.
I suggest how long I would spend in each place, but this is a self-driving guide to fit your own travel pace, build your own adventure!

The Basics
🇨🇦 About the Maritimes
The Maritimes is referring to a set of 3 Canadian provinces on the Atlantic coast: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. For the purpose of this guide, I'm also going to include the coastal part of Southern Quebec known as Gaspésie, even though it's not officially part of the Maritimes.
1.8 million people are living in the Maritimes, with nearly a quarter of them in the regional capital, Halifax. Over the centuries, the Maritimes have developed their heritage through influences from Ireland, England, France and its Indigenous people. Historically, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick are 2 of the 4 original provinces that proclaimed Canada as a country in 1867.
Another thing you may want to know is that the Maritimes are a popular place for whale watching from May to October.

When it comes to my travel style, I wouldn't call myself a backpacker, as I enjoy a bit too much a minimum of comfort. But always on a budget! My main focuses are sightseeing on road trips, outdoor activities, hiking, as well as city trips (I'm an architect so I always keep an eye out for some cool buildings). To be honest, you won't find me much relaxing. I'm a quite fast paced traveler, I always want to see as much as possible in a limited time!
My motto is: "if I'm not more tired than I was before going on a trip, I haven't enjoyed enough of it" :D
